A further look into the pulsating PG1159 stars
نویسنده
چکیده
To improve our understanding of the pulsational instabilities found in some of the PG1159-type pre-white dwarfs we performed detailed nonradial stability analyses on heliumstar evolutionary models. Adopting canonical chemical compositions as derived from spectroscopic observations, we found pulsational instabilities for all stellar masses considered (0.57, 0.63, 0.7 M ). The blue boundary of the instability domain agrees satisfactorily with observations. The red edge, on the other hand, is found to extend to lower temperatures than presently admitted by observations. The dependence of the pulsational instabilities on helium or even hydrogen abundance in the stellar envelopes is found to be less stringent than emphasized hitherto. In particular, we obtained pulsationally unstable g modes formodel stellar envelopeswhich are representative for HS2324+3944 – a newly discovered PG1159-star with a hydrogen abundance X = 0.2 and which is claimed to be pulsating.

متن کاملNLTE Spectral Analysis of GW Vir Pulsators
GW Vir variables are the pulsating members in the spectroscopic class of the PG 1159 stars. In order to understand the characteristic differences between pulsating and non-pulsating PG1159 stars, we analyse FUSE spectra of eleven objects, of which six are pulsating, by means of state-of-the-art NLTE model atmospheres. The numerous metal lines in the FUV spectra of these stars allow a precise de...
متن کاملOn the Possible Existence of Short-period G-mode Instabilities Powered by Nuclear Burning Shells in Post-agb H-deficient (pg1159-type) Stars
We present a pulsational stability analysis of hot post-AGB H-deficient pre-white dwarf stars with active He-burning shells. The stellar models employed are state-of-the-art equilibrium structures representative of PG1159 stars derived from the complete evolution of the progenitor stars, through the thermally pulsing AGB phase and born-again episode. On the basis of fully nonadiabatic pulsation...
متن کاملErratum: Asteroseismological constraints on the pulsating planetary nebula nucleus (PG1159-type) RXJ2117.1+3412
Aims. We present asteroseismological inferences on RXJ2117.1+3412, the hottest known pulsating PG1159 star. Our results are based on full PG1159 evolutionary models recently presented by Miller Bertolami & Althaus (2006). Methods. We performed extensive computations of adiabatic g-mode pulsation periods on PG1159 evolutionary models with stellar masses ranging from 0.530 to 0.741M⊙. PG1159 stel...
متن کاملOn the systematics of asteroseismological mass determinations of PG1159 stars
Aims. We analyze systematics in the asteroseismological mass determination methods in pulsating PG 1159 stars. Methods. We compare the seismic masses resulting from the comparison of the observed mean period spacings with the usually adopted asymptotic period spacings, ∆Πal , and the average of the computed period spacings, ∆Πl. Computations are based on full PG1159 evolutionary models with ste...
